Why you need a great coffee machine

Coffee can make or break your day, so it’s no wonder that coffee lovers are always on the hunt for the perfect cup. But as well as the beans you need the right equipment to make the perfect brew.

EspressoWorks 7 Pc All-in-One Espresso & Cappuccino Maker Machine

If you like going all in and getting great value for money this is the barista machine for you. It’s not just a coffee machine but a whole bundle of goodies. It’s a barista experience in a box.

Let’s cut to the chase. What exactly do you get in return for your cash?

  • 15 bar pump espresso maker with built in milk frother.
  • Mains powered coffee grinder.
  • Milk frothing jug.
  • Measuring spoon and tamper.
  • Filter with single and double shot baskets.
  • 2 x porcelain cups.

You get everything you need to turn your kitchen into a mini Costa. A slight compromise is on the plastic spoon and tamper but to be fair this is common. But the positives far outweigh the negative.

The machine itself delivers 15 bars of pressure which ensures you’re always going to get a good strong drink. The standalone grinder is an excellent touch. One of the big negatives with machines with built in grinders is that they can easily become clogged. You’ll have no such issues with this machine.

The bottom line of course is whether it makes a good cup of coffee. And it certainly does. The machine is ready in seconds and delivers excellent coffee and the attached milk frother creates a lovely thick foam.

Frothy coffee lovers will really enjoy this machine and the bundled extras make it fantastic value for money.

What I like

  • Did I mention it’s incredible value for money?
  • Comes with everything the home barista needs.
  • Ready in 30 seconds.
  • Good milk steamer and frother.
  • Very easy to use.

What I don’t like

  • Plastic tamper feels flimsy.
  • Grinder doesn’t make a really fine grind.

  • Cup warmers on top of the machine.
  • Pause switch.

What I don’t like

  • No grinder.
  • Frother drips a lot.
  • Plastic tamper.

De’Longhi Scultura

You will just need some good beans prepared by a professional artisan and this beautifully- designed machine to make blissful caffeinated (and very frothy) moments happen!

What I like

  • Very well made.
  • Three button system.

What I don’t like

  • Frother wand prone to dripping.
  • Coffee holders are difficult to clean.

Homever Traditional Pump Espresso Coffee Machine

This is a very compact machine with a traditional look and feel. If you make single cups of coffee this will be ideal for you. It produces 15 bars of pressure and as it has a steam wand attached you can make any type of coffee you wish.

Build quality isn’t the best but at under £100 it’s a decent machine. It won’t stand up to constant use but if you’re using it to get you going in the morning or as a late night fillip it’ll do the job for you.

Just be aware that stopping the coffee flow is done manually. Don’t sit back and think it’ll automatically stop or you’ll have a flooded counter top. However, the manual process (you press a button to start and end the flow) does mean you can control the strength of the coffee.

What I like

  • Cup warming function.
  • Single or double cups.
  • Adjustable steam control.
  • Large 1.5 litre tank.
  • Easy to use.
  • Very compact.

What I don’t like

  • No grinder.
  • Feels flimsy.

Ariete 1318R Moderna Espresso Machine

I have to say that of the six barista coffee machines we’ve looked at, the Ariete is by far the most stylish. It will look sensational on your kitchen counter. It’s available in three colours, red, black or white, so whatever your kitchen decor this machine will fit in very nicely.

Unfortunately it’s not all about looks. Some reviewers have reported issues with a clogging filter and after the coffee is produced the machine will continue to drip.

The built in grinder is both a positive and negative. It’s great to have the grinder in place but it is very noisy. As a genuine bean to cup coffee machine the Ariete has everything you need built in to practice your barista skills at home.

What I like

  • Very stylish design – matches my kitchen decor.
  • Built in grinder and milk frother.

What I don’t like

  • Style over substance.
  • Very, very, noisy.
  • Small tank.
